Drilling a stack without shutdown time now become very easy task

December 2019 – During Defect Confirmation and Shutdown Maintenance (DCSM) period of Nghi Son Refinery and Petrochemical Complex, Frontier E&C team had completed modification work for stacks and chimney with 64 locations for additional environment monitoring equipment.

Before start the modification work, client requests strictly work without incident, without defection and short execution time. Due to each stack and chimney in different process line/plant, it has many difference structure and difference material. Some special stack having flake lining layer which prevent acid enriched environment. If this special liner is damaged during modification time, the restoration is mandatory because it protect the stack structure from corrosion. But restoration work takes very long time and may cause other work delay accordingly, and client did not accept this risk.

Our R&D team had built simulation stacks with exactly layer and material for study and design the method of modification. Beside it, engineers must decide best technic of cutting because it requires difference specific tools and equipment. Our team already studied and tried a lot of up-to-date technique from jet water cutting, laser cutting to other solutions. Each technic was tested and evaluated in material damaging, dimension tolerance, finish time and also other potential risk may cause fail. After each trial time our engineer continues optimize for one best method. Our final solution got approval for implementation by client after only one time demonstration. This very carefully preparation taken to very good result, all stack/chimney was modified and additional equipment was erected with no defection, no incident, perfect quality in shorted time.

This is the way Frontier E&C always trying to turn any impossible work to possible work, it is Frontier’s thinking – ready to face any challenge. If you need to drilling/modification any stack of industrial plant, just contact us and we are glad to share or advise you.
